The Fairlawn-Bath branch of the Akron Public Library has invited a certified Master Gardener to speak to an audience of garden enthusiasts.
Sarah Vradenburg, a master gardener with Summit County, is scheduled to talk at 6:30 on Monday about basic ways one can grow and maintain a garden. Vradenburg, a former reporter at the Beacon Journal, will be discussing issues such as soil preparation, different types of gardens, and which plants to invest your time and money in. Growing herbs will also be a part of her presentation.
According to adult librarian Brian Burch there was an increase in interest in backyard gardens. He attributes the increase to people trying to save money.
“People are planting their own vegetables and things of that nature to offset their grocery bill,” Burch said.
